The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), in close cooperation with the Public Health and Reforms Center of the Ministry Health of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Azerbaijan Republic Association of Hemophilia (ARAH) and the Department of Hematology of the State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies of the Azerbaijan Republic, organized the second orthopedic Symposium in Baku, Azerbaijan, on June 27, 2019.
More than 80 participants attended the symposium with speakers from Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in attendance. In parallel, the WFH and the ARAH organized a seminar with the bleeding disorders community where the Russian Hemophilia Society shared their experiences related to ensuring access to comprehensive care and treatment in the Russian Federation.
On June 28, 2019, the WFH delegation and representatives from the ARAH and the medical teams from the hemophilia treatment centres (HTCs) in Baku and Shirvan met with officials from the Ministry of Health to discuss the possibility of establishing a National Hemophilia Committee. They also discussed increasing the purchase of hemophilia treatment products in Azerbaijan to 40 million IUs in 2019.
