Webinar provides up-to-date information on the impact of COVID-19 on community

On April 9th, 2020, the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) held a webinar to provide up-to-date information on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and how it is impacting the international bleeding disorders community. Over 2,000 participants, from 107 countries, joined the webinar to listen to the presentations and participate in the question and answer period.

The first presentation, by Glenn Pierce, MD, PhD, WFH Vice President, Medical (U.S.A), discussed the current knowledge of COVID-19 and how it can affect people with a bleeding disorder. The second presentation, by Flora Peyvandi, MD (Italy), focused on issues related to the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID-19. The last presentation, by Magdy El Ekiaby, MD (Egypt), covered issues related to COVID-19 preparations in Egypt, including initiatives from hemophilia treatment centres and the Egyptian Society of Hemophilia (EHS), and other similar countries.

The presentations were followed by a dynamic question and answer period, which included the additional expertise of Cedric Hermans, MD (Belgium) and Radoslaw F. Kaczmarek, PhD (Poland/U.S.A.).
