WFH eLearning Centres – Hubs for bleeding disorders information and resources

The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) is pleased to showcase eLearning Centres, themed collections of information and educational materials to support the education, development, and advocacy work of WFH national member organizations (NMOs), and the entire international bleeding disorders community. Each individual WFH educational resource was created to meet an identified need and can be explored in detail on the WFH eLearning Platform.

The eLearning Centres are organized into eight disease state subject areas:

  • Inherited Bleeding Disorders
  • Introduction to Hemophilia
  • Carriers and Women with Hemophilia
  • Inhibitors
  • Prophylaxis
  • von Willebrand Disease
  • Rare Clotting Factor Deficiencies
  • Inherited Platelet Disorders

Each of these themed eLearning Centres is organized into two tabs: “Information” and “Resources”.

The “Information” tab provides immediate access to foundational information in the subject area. Learners can navigate through each of the expandable sections in turn, or target sections of interest. Currently available in English, content in the “Information” tab corresponds with the popular Patient Information Booklet series that is also available in Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

The “Resources” tab presents relevant WFH educational resources, and guides learners toward in-depth information on the subject matter. This tab is constantly being updated with new resources as they are published, with the newest resources listed first.

Selecting a resource brings the learner to a webpage listing further details on the piece, including the date of publication, language(s), author(s), and a summary of what the resource covers. If the resource is available in additional languages, links are provided. Resources can be launched online or downloaded for offline viewing.

One eLearning Centre is devoted to the WFH World Congress, an international meeting dedicated to hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, rare factor deficiencies, and inherited platelet disorders. It brings together hematologists, pediatricians, orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, physiotherapists, dentists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, geneticists, laboratory technicians, researchers, scientists, patients, families, and advocates from around the world to share their expertise and expand their knowledge through presentations, panel discussions, workshops, symposia, and exhibits.

The WFH World Congress eLearning Centre is also organized into “Information” and “Resources” tabs. The “Information” tab provides an overview of the most recent WFH World Congress, as well as several Congress Highlight videos. The first section of the Resources tab presents a series of videos of panel discussions on select topics (for example: VWD outreach) recorded at the WFH 2016 World Congress.

The next section contains an interactive ePoster carousel, conference abstracts, and the state of the art Haemophilia journal special Congress supplement.

The interactive ePoster carousel features over 500 posters presented at the WFH 2016 World Congress. Learners can browse the carousel, or search for a poster by title, author, poster number, or topic. Posters can be enlarged by clicking on the poster image once. Using the “Options” tab on the right of an enlarged poster, learners may download, print, or email posters to friends or colleagues; contact poster authors directly through email; or participate in an online discussion. The interactive carousel also hosts the presentation slides for the 36 posters that were live-moderated at Congress. Learners who would like to find out more can search using poster code “MP”.

The remainder of the Resources tab consists of a broad selection of more than 70 webcasts ranging from state of the art updates on gene therapy, to personal patient stories, and inspiring work being carried out in the developing world. Webcasts are available in English and organized into the following themes:

  • Patient Focus
  • Management of Bleeding Disorders
  • Extended Half-Life Products
  • Inhibitors
  • Women and Bleeding Disorders
  • von Willebrand Disease
  • Genetics
  • Laboratory Sciences
  • Rare Factor Deficiencies
  • Product Safety and Supply

Learners can quickly share any resource with colleagues, friends, and family via the social media banner on the left of the screen. Each of the eLearning Centres is available in English on the WFH eLearning Platform, and navigation of the entire Platform in Spanish and French is currently in preparation.
